10 Musicians from the Upper West Region you should look out for

For so many years, the Upper West region has always boasted of two major musical talents: Samini and Wiyaala. However, the game is changing and several musical talents are been unearthed from the region.

These crop of young men and women are proving to the world that you can remain authentic and still get your work out there.

Here’s a list of a few of the hardworking talents who are pushing boundaries and putting their work out there:

1. 2KORNERZ

Evans Enzie and Rcee DeRapper collectively makeup the duo 2KORNERZ. By nature, there’s day/Night, birth/death, Rain/Shine etc and by existence-knowledge of right/wrong, good/bad, hence the philosophical brand and stage name, 2KORNERZ.

Both Evans and RCee have been musically active from High School but went professional and commercial in 2016. They have released singles like “Feelings” and “Party Up” featuring Raggae Dancehall heavyweight Rudebwoy Ranking in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

2KORNERZ is currently working on an EP and with some released projects already on rotation on major music channels with plans to drop a third major single soon. This amazingly talented music duo is working hard and pushing to get into the mainstream of Ghana Music soon.

2. Typanza

Dabie Samuel was born May 11, in Tema, Ghana. He’s popularly known in the music industry as Typanza. Typanza classifies himself as a hiphop and Afro pop recording artist. He’s also an entrepreneur based in Wa in the Upper West Region of Ghana. He is lyrically vested with unimaginable punchlines, the type of lyrics that will make you go.. ‘How da hell does he do that’.

He has won himself a couple of awards including best peace song 2016, best collaboration song and hiplife song in the 2017 Edition of radio progress music awards. He was also ranked as the best rapper by Ice TV and one of the finest top three hardcore rappers in the Upper West Region.

3. Camp Muziq

‘LIVE LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW,’ that is the slogan the members of the record label, CAMP MUSIC live by. They are passionate, talent driven boys [and girls] who aim at making an impact on the society through music and also showcase the various musical gifts they have been endowed with.

Camp music basically means a base where group of people meet so the meaning of their record label is pretty self-explanatory. In other senses, camp music represents a safe haven for the youth. There are lots of staff members in the team but only four musicians, DM, SYGIO, TOPBOI and STYLISH. The genres of music produced in this label are hip pop, afro pop, dance hall and rap. Though they are still penetrating through the industry, they have quite the reputation and are known for their good production of music. 

Hailing from the Upper West Region of Ghana, they were inspired by the fact that they had a common love for music, the people and their culture. They make songs in multiple languages which include various Ghanaian languages and English. They have various individual singles and an upcoming album titled ‘L.O.T.S’. 4. Suntaama

Dong-Purye Sussan Suntaama ( who used to be known under the stage name Shee Rap is now known as Suntaama ) was born on the 23 of August, 1990 in Pong-Tamale in the Northern part of Ghana. Suntaama is a Ghanaian afropop and R&B artiste who sings in her native language dagaari with a combination of Twi , English and Dagbani , the singer and song writer attained public recognition when DKB of the Big brother fame featured her in his apology song in 2012. She was awarded by the National youth authority under the Upper West Youth Achievers awards in 2016 for her AIDS song . In 2016/17 she won best female vocalist of the year in the Upper West region and in 2017/18 she won best female vocalist year for the three regions under the Northern sector.

5. Edwin Maaseg

Maaseg Edwin with the stage name Maaseg Dagaati is a Hip Hop/ Afro Pop Artiste From Guo, a suburb of the Nandom district (Upper West region, Ghana). A member of a group of young men that are trying to build their musical careers by building each other Called “legacy empire”. Legacy empire was an idea by one Kwame Baah to support upcoming artists to achieve their dreams and help them push their talents and craft to the world. He later put a couple of young talents: Kwame Baah, Tee boi, Darlington, Jay Scratch, Enzym and Maaseg on board. In 2016, Maaseg won the Afro pop song of the year at the Progress Upper West Music Awards (PRUMAS) and has since been part of the system both in and outside the Upper West region. In 2018, he performed at the annual frafra/dagaaba friendly games at the Elwak sports stadium in Accra and in 2019 he joined the tall list of artists who performed at the Chale Wote Street art festival in James town, Accra.

7. Stunner GH

Stunner GH is the lead and only artiste under Stunner Nation. He started music officially in 2017 and won the PRUMAS most popular song of the year in 2018. He is basically a rapper but sings quite well too. He has about 50 songs so far with several other features. He has performed on the same stage with many mainstream musicians in Ghana including Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Medikal and others. He currently launched his first album dubbed Suntaa Album. Stunner GH has a very promising future in music because he is one of the youngest and yet talented and determined artist in the whole of Northern Ghana. 8. Nfaazi

Cosmas Nfaazie Nyuur is the name given at birth to this dynamic singer known as Nfaazi who was born in Nandom, Ghana Africa. During his childhood years Cosmas(Nfaazi) experienced things many people in general couldn’t even imagine but this did not deter Nfaazi from “going after his dreams. ” and this demonstrate his determination to make it as an artist in the music business. Growing he loved to listen to music. He started to nature his music Talent when he was in secondary school in St. Francis Xavier Minor Seminary in wa… performing on various stages in other secondary schools during games and Outings.
he first song Mama Africa produced by Echo soundz was out in the year 2013, Followed by Badda Dan dem, physically fit, Nsinne be ( a love song in dagaare), halleluyah ft. Reteela and Safura ft Wiz Maleek. Nfaazi has had to deal with many hardships in his lifetime, but never allows that to affect his outlook on life or his positive attitude. He named himself Nfaazi carved out from his middle name Nfaazie. Considered to be a shy person , he is however transforming into a whole different person, ready to give his best to music lovers.
He also enjoys some great online traffic on sites like YouTube, ReverbNation, APPLE MUSIC, SOUNDCLOUD , Facebook, Amazon and ITunes. Nfaazi is still growing his fan base and there is nothing stopping this songwriter, . His humility combined with his magical talent he believe will draw many to him. In 2019 he teamed up with Pramus award artist of the year Wiz Maleek in “SAFURA” Which is a huge success.

9. IB Music

IB, full name Ibrahim Asiagodo has always had music in him, but he only decided to make his passion public in 2019. According to him, his music seeks to let the black man understand his essence on earth and how powerful our women are. Even though IB is just starting off, his music has received several good reactions and criticisms which he’s taking and working on.
